Never Be Afraid to Seek Help |
We live in a world where unfortunately mental health is extremely stigmatized. But don't let this stop you from seeking help if you feel like you may need it. Friends and family can be great support systems but sometimes it is nice to have an opportunity to talk to a non-judgmental professional. At a school as big as McGill it is easy to get lost in the crowd, get sucked into something that you may not feel comfortable with or even just feel a little invisible. Seeking help is NOT a sign of weakness, but rather a characteristics of strength. Never let the fear of embarrassment stop you from taking the steps you need to be your best self. Whether you are suffering from depression, experienced a recent breakup, or even just feel the need to vent about exams - there are places for you to go. I think that the main problem with McGill is that people feel like they need to go at it alone but you don't and let's be real it would be impossible anyway. Everyone needs help sometimes and why not get it? You may walk down the street and think that you are the only person who is struggling and that everyone else has their life together but let me tell you that is a blatant lie. Remember that everyone has their story and those stories often come with a lot of baggage. Just like you have your secrets so does everyone else. The problems that you are experiencing, I guarantee are being experienced by many others around you. There are a lot of places on campus that can provide you with that extra support you may need. We must strive to abandon the false notion of ''normal' and embrace our problems and flaws for everyone has them, nobody is perfect and no one should expect you to be.
